Deeeelicious!!!
I had a hankering for some homemade applesauce last night! I have been keeping bags of Gala apples on-hand to snack on... so I grabbed some and got to work!
5 apples, peeled, cored and cut up into chunks...
1/2 c. of water...
A sprinkle of cinnamon...
Boil... (I thought for sure that 1/2 a cup of water wasn't going to be enough... but the apple juices made up for it!)
Turn back the heat to simmer until apples are tender...
I used my handy-dandy food mill and drained the water/juices into the sink... then stirred and whirred to get the apples broken down...
If you don't have a food mill... a mesh strainer and wooden spoon will work (although it's a lot more time consuming!)
My recipe calls for 1/4 - 1/2 c. of sugar... but I put a little less than 1/8 c. and it was just right for our taste buds...
And of course...
It never lasts long!! YUM!!!
Maybe next time I'll make more so I can keep some in the fridge to snack on!
I used to make apple sauce and freeze it in little containers for Adeline to eat as a baby. Now I can't get her to even put a spoon full near her face.
ReplyDeleteHaha that sure did look good though!
Wow, that looks yummy, but like a bit of work. I'm so lazy! Amelia made some with her kindergarten class a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad the teacher has the energy to show them how to do it from scratch rather than her lazy Mom :)
ReplyDeleteI soooooooooooo miss applesauce. Of all the things that I can't have, apples are probably one of the most painful. Both physically and mentally. See if I eat them, I'll probably have a near death experience. But the taste would be totally worth it, I'm sure. Because I can't eat them, I don't typically make the traditional fall apple themed dishes.. and my kids are missing out. Apple cobbler, apple pie, apple cider, applesauce... DANGIT. But gosh that looks so good. soooooooooooooo good.
ReplyDeleteJealous.
