SIX RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME:
1. I have 6 penpals! (3 of them have been writing to me since we were 13 or 14!! I LOVE THEM ALL!)
2. I have been engaged... twice. Once when I was 18/19 and once when I was 22. Never gone through with it. I'm a freak.
3. I have 4 volkswagens!
4. I am a generally unhappy person... I cry pretty much everyday. (believe me, i don't want to be this way...)
5. I have a fake tooth. When I was 8... I fell (to make a long story short) and broke my left front tooth. Of course it was an adult tooth... so they had to put a cap on it. It's held up pretty well for the past 16 yrs! Looks totally real!
6. I homeschooled my last 2 years of highschool. Why? Because I totally hated school and couldn't wait to move on in life. HA... look at me now. Have hardly moved on.
I have already tagged people for this... so I don't want to re-tag them. Please feel free to snag this for yourself though... and let me know so I can check out your answers!

We're the Cool Kids, Can't You Tell?
LOL! So I just wanted to share our new fashion statement at work. We are now required to wear work-issued hard hats. Cathy and I just got ours today. The guy giving them out told me I looked cute! HAHA... I had to let my hair down to make it fit... but uhmm... I guess I can deal with it.
Hope we gave you a good laugh... or at least a chuckle!!

A Quick Review...
Some of you (or perhaps many) have heard of Ben Stein's movie "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed". Last night, Cory and I decided to go see it. It was more of my choice than his... but Cory's a good sport and didn't seem to mind going. I don't want to give too much away (for those of you who want to see it)... but basically it is a debate between Darwinism and Intelligent Design. It's like a documentary that you'd see on the History Channel. If you want my honest opinion... I would say that the movie was interesting. There were things I didn't know... but there was nothing GROUND BREAKING. Four people actually got up and left (out of the 12 or 15 that were there)... and it was all I could do not to nod off (although I did a number of times). Over all... it was pretty boring. Something I would rather watch while sitting on my couch on a lazy evening. I definitely wouldn't recommend paying $8 or more dollars per person to see it at the theatre. Wait until it comes out on dvd and then rent it!!
On another note... I have been stressing about the stuff I need to get done for the Laurel Festival coming up in June. I have kind of been put in charge (partially by my own doing) of a Community Mural, Drum Jam, Praise&Worship, etc... on Wednesday, June 18th. THEN, I am organizing a Vesper Service for Saturday, June 20th. I need to find speakers and music... AHHH! I had a dream last night about it (I think it was because I was kind of panicking about it as I drifted off to sleep)... and I dreamt that I freaked out at the people in my church because I felt like I was doing everything and no one else was pitching in. When I say Freaked Out.. I mean.. SCREAMING out my frustrations! I woke up and felt better... since it didn't really happen... and then I remembered... today is our Fellowship Dinner after church.... and I am the one that has to head that up too!!!!! I started to panic and look around for food to make. If you would see my cupboards... you would know my dilemma. So... I've scrounged some things and I have to go work on that right now. But... PLEASE keep my in prayer about getting all of this stuff organized and taken care of. On top of all of that... I have work... which I'm covering for my co-worker all week... which means 4AM... here I come! AND.. I have some festivals coming up to sell pottery... and I haven't even looked at the pottery wheel yet! I'm stressing!!! But I gotta go cook now.............

Why is it..?
Why is it... when you go to a store and try to find your size bra... they don't have it. Or if they do... its in the same old-same old... white, beige... and if your really lucky--they may even have black. Do you think they'd have a fun one? Maybe pink or yellow... or Pink with yellow polka dots?? Nope. Never in my size. Although.. I was intrigued by a commercial yesterday on my one-channel-no-cable tv. It was for the "breakthrough backless bra"--now why couldn't I have thought of that?! Whatcha want to bet--if I ever come across one..... it won't fit. ARGH!! And why is it... when you go to a store and actually find a few things to try on... they never fit. There isn't enough bust room... the pants are a little too tight... a dress is cut WAY too low. But of course, you have to wear a bra - so you couldn't even think about wearing something with little straps or heaven-forbid---strapless! *gasp!* (not sure how appropriate that would be anyway) Sometimes I look around and see these girls bigger than me wearing tiny tops and halters... and secretly in my head I'm thinking 'she can wear that... why can't i!? ugh!'... then I snap back into reality and think to myself... 'no, she shouldn't really be wearing that. just because she is doesn't mean its a good thing!' (is that horrible? sorry) Anyway... why is it... the day after you got up at 3:30AM to go to work early... and you slept in (today)- totally forgetting that you should've been to work early again (until you walk into the office and see your amazing co-worker finishing what you should've been doing--Thanks Cathy!)... you happen to be at this same store... and see someone you used to know when you were 17. You used to babysit her kids... she is almost 50 and looks like she is younger than you........... and the first words out of her mouth (after the "hey!!! how are you!?")... are "yeah, you look really tired". Granted, I did mention that I've been exhausted... but throw in the fitting room chaos and it pretty much makes ya feel like pooh! So, I trudged away - thinking how pathetic I must be. (I even put on make up to try to look half decent tonight!)... and I go to the baby section. I had a present all picked out for my cousin's baby shower (which I can't make it to this weekend)... and I wanted to see if I could find one more thing that I'd been thinking of. I found it.... but still browsed through the baby clothes. Have I ever mentioned that I love strawberries? I have bought clothes for my "someday" children and stored them in rubbermaid tubs... for.. "someday". As I was browsing the racks... I saw the most adorable little strawberry dress with little matching bloomers. I picked it up and saw... TAA DAA... it was ON SALE for $3.49. Say WHAT!? I looked through - figuring in my mind what size I would need... trying to rationalize what time of month and how old my baby would be. I did this for about 3 minutes... then I heard a lady talking on her cell phone and I have no idea what she said other than "she'll be due..." and I realized... WHAT AM I DOING? My whole life I have done this. Bought little things here and there for "someday" - packed them away - someday.... someday. I almost started to tear up. So I headed for another section... found my niece a pair of jeans and tank top... that should take my mind off of it... right? *sigh* Right. I think all of these years of pre-planning has jinxed me for life. Or so it seems. Anyway... I happened across the mall to another store - ok, I admit... it was BIG LOTS. I like that store. You can find different stuff every time you go and they usually have organic foods and inexpensive tissues (which I tend to use lots of). I walked past this one section... 90% off! My day was looking brighter! Away from the clothes... the baby stuff... into the world of 90% off. Oh yeah! At the teen center I volunteer at... we have a "goodie box" for the traveling bands we have come in. We try to keep it stocked with travel sized items - shampoos, toothbrushes, chapstick, toothpaste, etc. I hit the jackpot! I was paying like 15 cents for stuff that was normally $1-something. Couldn't pass it up. So that was nice. Then I went to a restaurant and ate some salad. Don't worry, I was in good company. I am reading a book my cousin got me for Christmas called "gilgamesh". It's... interesting. I am not sure how I feel about it totally.. but its kept me interested. I find that when I am reading a good book... I can ride on my exercise bike longer and not get bored. I am currently reading about 5 different books. It's hard to focus on just one - which is why I usually end up veering toward the fiction... it keeps me on the ball.
All of this.... to say... Why is it that there are soooo many blessings in front of me - yet I always tend to linger on the negative? So many lessons to learn.
Well, I have some wrapping to do. I also have to package up a shipment for my Etsy Shop! (WOOT!)
Sorry for rambling!!!

My Day at Work....
I thought I would share a couple of pictures with you of my work today. We are having all sorts of concrete work done outside... WOW... the machines have been vibrating the whole building and giving us headaches! It's caused a lot of chaos with trucks and deliveries... but it will be nice once it's finished. Here are some shots from out my office window...
Also, we have a HUGE customer coming tomorrow. So Cathy and I have been cleaning (mostly Cathy--while I do regular tasks)... look at how DISGUSTING my wall was! (Our cleaning guys aren't very thorough). What color is that, you ask? BLUE! (how could you tell with the layers of DIRT) ICK! We are going to repaint it in the near future to a sandy brown color (hopefully to hide dirt)!
Here are the flowers my employers bought me for "Administrative Professionals Day"--LOL... I don't know about the professional part! But it was totally nice of them. They got Cathy one as well... with mostly red and pink flowers (don't mind the mess on my desk in the picture--like I said.. it was cleaning time)...
And last but not least... here is me and my co-worker Kevin. He was showing me how to do something and I was getting frustrated because it involved math--and I HATE math! hehe. Cathy snapped this and we didn't know it!
Have a nice day--it is beautiful out here!!!

I AM BEING ATTACKED....
BY SPIDERS!!!!
AAAHHHHH!! I DO NOT like spiders. AT ALL. Never will I ever not take the opportunity to kill one. I don't care if its mean... I don't care if that means I'll have a few more "bugs" around that the spider(s) would normally eat. UGH! I hate them.
The other day... I woke up to find one in my shower. It was no biggie... one of those daddy long leg looking ones with a longer body. It still gave me the willies... and it's now dead.
That same day... I came home and decided to let Boo out real quick. I grabbed my cell to call Cory and let Boo out the door. As I was standing outside on my porch IN FLIP FLOPS... I thought I saw something scurry by. Oh yes.. it was a brown/black spider. Big chunky thing. ICK!!! I stepped on it.
Then, last night... I came home from the teen center... and was letting Boo out... and when I opened my screen door... I thought I saw something move down by the bottom of it(outside). I waited for boo to be done and when she came back in... there it was! It was still on the ground outside of my door... but it was way too close. I stomped on it.
Then - just a few minutes ago.... I was letting Boo outside after she ate her breakfast and luckily I was wearing slippers with a hard bottom on them!! As soon as I opened the door... one of those nasty brown spiders ran INTO my house! I freaked and stomped on it. UGH!!!!!
I think I'm becoming paranoid. I keep getting the willies and feel like I have to be on the constant lookout around me. YUCK! The little spiders aren't as bad... but these brown ones just freak me out! They are kind of big... they are brown with black stripes on their back... and a velvety texture. (Like Cory's head when he doesn't shave it for a couple of days.... LOL!) No, but seriously. I tried to look it up... and the Black House Spider seems to be the closest fit. I can't stay on the pages very long because the pictures freak me out.
UGH. I am thinking about having Cory spray around my doors and windows to try to repel them. I think they like the porch because of my porch light and the little flying bugs it attracts. I know they are God's creatures too... but yyyiiiikes.. I just can't hack it!

A crazy weekend...
Cory went to Maryland to see his friend, Mark. I guess the hospital may be releasing him soon and he is going to be coming back to PA to recover for awhile. I am waiting to hear more from Cory later on. Thank you for your prayers!
I was going to go with Cory--but it was so back and forth up until the last minute and I had to help my mom with a Tea Party at my church this afternoon. It was ZANEY!!! We were swamped. Check out the hat I made for my niece. It was the one requirement of coming to the party. You had to wear a hat! There were some pretty interesting ones!
On a side note though... I am getting very frustrated with people. I try to do what I can and be involved with church activities.... but why does it have to be thrown on just a few shoulders? Everyone wants things to happen... they want luncheons and "teas" and dinners and VBS and Sunday School and programs and small groups.... but who steps up to do it? No one... except me and my mom and Cory. SERIOUSLY.
I volunteer at a teen center. Guess how many volunteers we have total? FOUR. Yes, four people who give up every single weekend of the year. No one else seems to care, despite our pleas for help! It is very frustrating and discouraging. Part of me feels like maybe I should step down from my volunteering. But then... I don't want to be like everyone else. I want to make a difference.
I wonder why people don't seem to care? And its not like there haven't been invitations made so that people feel welcome to help. :(

More Birthday Fun!
I just wanted to finish posting about my WONDERFUL day off and my dad's birthday.... one in the same! (I don't have much time though)
After I made the YUMMY peanut butter pie... I did some things around my house, then went to my mom's to help get ready for dinner and decorate a little bit. Cory came over and my sis's family... and I think my dad was pleasantly surprised about all that was going on for him. Our family likes to get together... but I don't remember the last time we focused much on my dad.
I was trying to upload some pics... but got a big ERROR message and couldn't figure out how to get back to the upload thing. UGH...
This is my dad opening up a "last minute gift" my 6 yr old niece had just wrapped up for him. hehe
It was a really good day!!
On a selfish note: I am so totally apalled at my weight... ugh--I am freaking out.
On a GOOD note: Cory's friend had surgery on his leg and is doing much better--but will have to be in rehab for a LONG time. Please keep him in your prayers!

Urgent Prayer Request!!!!
This afternoon, one of Cory's friends, Mark (a police officer in Baltimore, MD) was shot during some kind of undercover gang work. I'm not sure of the whole story... but apparently the bullet went into his right thigh and shattered the bone. He lost a lot of blood, but was taken to the hospital and was to have surgery tonight. His parents had a police escort down to MD (they live in PA). Please keep Mark in your prayers that all goes well with the surgery, etc... and please keep his family in your prayers for comfort in this crazy time!! I know its really shaken everyone up!
Thank you!
More pics and stuff about my dad's bday tomorrow!!

Hooray for Today!!
Today has been an amazing breath of fresh air. Almost to the point of tears! I haven't felt this good in a long time! It's a beautiful day... a bit chilly... but the sun is shining AND I just came back in from hanging clothes out on the line! How awesome is that!? I was actually excited when the washer cycle was done... I stopped what I was doing to grab a basket and head out to the back yard!
Lunch went well... I invited my grandma and uncle to stop over for pizza... it was a full house (or shop, if we're being technical).
My sister made a really yummy PB cake. I love peanut butter! She made it from scratch too. I only had a small piece because I am saving room for dinner! (oh yeah, if you're wondering why there is pieces cut out of the cake... LOL... its because my sister's dog LICKED part of it and she had to cut it out. gross! there was even a lid on it! sneaky mutt! i assure you that i ate a piece from the farthest corner! LOL!)
Here is the roast cooking... YUM! My house smells amazing! EVERYTHING is totally amazing today! The lady at the post office was soooo nice... normally I hate going to the local post office because the counter people are so grouchy... but this lady was a peach! I got to drive my bug around on such a lovely day... and I even got stuck behind pokey people gawking at the country side on my way home. But ya know what? It was OK!!! I didn't get irritated! I was in no hurry... I didn't have to be anywhere at a certain time... I was just on my way home to keep doing what needed done whenever I had time. I wrapped my dads presents... which I kind of went overboard on... nothing too expensive... just a bunch of little things. I feel like he deserves a good birthday... so I don't mind spoiling him a bit! Peanut Butter pie is one of my dad's favorites... so I made one from a recipe my co-worker, Cathy, gave me. It looks pretty good, I think! It's the first time I've attempted to make one!
Here is the recipe:
You'll need 1 Graham Cracker Crust (or you can make your own if you know how--I didn't because I had no clue where to start! If anyone knows--please share!)
1 big tub of cool whip (you can use the lite kind if you're wanting a little "healthier" option)
8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 c. PB
1/2 c. Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
little mini chocolate chips or candy *optional*
Mix with blender:
cream cheese, peanut butter, sugar, vanilla
(make sure its mixed up well!)
Fold in (w/ spatula) 1 c. cool whip until it is well blended into a fluffy peanut buttery mix!
Place into pie crust and spread evenly.
Add cool whip on top and sprinkle mini chips.
Refrigerate 1 hour.
YUMMMMMM!!!
It's so easy... and yummy (I licked the bowl and spatula) :)
I am off to do some dishes and try to organize some sweaters. I'm hoping to gear up into my mitten-making again. I'd like to build up an inventory to sell on Etsy. If you are wondering what I am talking about... check out my Etsy shop and take a gander at the mittens I made! I have some really nice sweaters for the upcoming seasons stash!

What? No Work Today??
That's right... I am taking the day off!! Today is my dad's birthday and (with the suggestion from Cory)... I decided to take off of work and make a roast for dinner and peanut butter pie (my dad's fav)... and also go in to his work and decorate a little bit--and order a party pizza from a local place for lunch. I don't think he has any idea! Although he might have figured something was up when my cars were parked outside this AM.... but we'll see!!!
It has felt good to wake up (not too early...lol) and work on the roast. I feel... FREE. I've always disliked going to work every day - although I try to make the best of it (TRY being the key word)... but there is something different about waking up and knowing that I can do ANYTHING! I don't have any time restrictions... AMAZING! Its different when you take a planned vacation and have to catch a flight or drive in a car.......... this is like... totally freeing! It's NICE! I'm just sad it will be over after today!
Oh well! I'm going to try to make the best of it!!

In the Driver's Seat....
So, today after work, I came home and played with Boo in the back yard. I took a shower and did a few things around the house... then I went in to town to my dad's body shop to see if he wanted to get some dinner (my mom was away for the day... and Cory was visiting friends). I went to a local pizza shop and ordered dinner... then called Cory while I waited. (Don't worry--I got myself salad!! Although I've been absolutely horrible with watching what I eat--I LOVE sweets! UGH!). After I got the food, I drove back to the shop and my dad and I sat in the break room eating dinner while watching The Beverly Hillbillies on TVLand. LOL. It was actually kind of funny... I much prefer Mr. Ed though. Anywho. We drove out to a ladie's house so my dad could drop off her car, I picked him up in my car... then we took a drive out to my grandpa's to check out the damage on his mercedes. Someone rear-ended him going 45 MPH. Looks like its going to be totaled... which is probably for the best. After that, we went to these people's house in town - they wanted my dad to haul their shed to another location. I felt like a criminal because we were driving really slow to figure out which shed it might be. THEN, we got out and my dad went to look at it and measure to see if it'd fit on the truck and to make sure his truck could even get to it. Talk about REALLY feeling like a criminal, walking around someone's back yard! They knew he was going to come look at it though... so I guess that made it OK. LOL... After that we drove back to the shop and my mom called - I ran inside for a minute and when I came out... my dad was outside with his new (used) GIGANTIC tow truck. "Wanna go for a ride?!"... of course I ran around and hopped in. We drove a couple of miles down the road and when he went to turn around.. he put it in park and said "Wanna drive?!"... I was like.. "WOO HOO!!!" I climbed across the seat and he came around to the passenger side (I buckled my seat belt! thankyouverymuch)... and off we went!! It was so weird!! It's HUGE compared to anything I've ever driven! I've driven his other trucks--but they definitely weren't this big. Come on, I'm used to driving a little Jetta.. and a vw bug... talk about a difference! (Although driving my vw camper took awhile to get used to!) This tow truck was so fun. I felt powerful and in control!!! So, I didn't go over 45 MPH... but I felt like I was going 80.... not that I would know what going 80 feels like... ahem. ;) Anyway... it was fun... and I'm glad I went! My sis invited me out to play the Wii... But I just don't have the energy to jump around and move. Sitting and driving was A-OK by me! And the best part... was that I pretty much spent the whole evening with my dad. That means a lot. :)

Serving God, or Man?
I have been thinking about the issue of what does it mean to serve God... and/or serve Man? I mean, where is the line drawn? There are so many denominations and opinions, pastors, books, speakers... who says who is right?? I believe we should follow the Bible... but others believe we should look into history to see how the "early" church did things...
I am at work with a limited amount of time... but I found this link to a Washington Post Article that I thought was interesting. How do we know we aren't following a cult? Cory was telling me yesterday about a Baptist Group from the mid-west who were reportedly making plans to travel to Western PA to PROTEST the funeral of the 10 victims who lost their lives in a tragic fire not far from here. I think that is CRAZY! They think that it was God's wrath coming upon these people. I think those people are nuts! It could maybe have been the fact that the people couldn't afford the rising price of gas to heat their home--and were using kerosene/space heaters - which is believed to have caused the blaze. Maybe those people should go protest the gas companies!? Its a shame that people... like those in the radical Baptist Group give others of us (who happen to be Baptist as well) a bad name. What a witness! (sorry--went on a rant there!)
I am curious to know your thoughts... scripture verses are welcome!
I have to get back to work - its a BEAUTIFUL day!!!

"Freedom"
This is one of my favorite artists... Josh Garrels. I discovered him a number of years ago at a music festival... and have been hooked. I like his folky-hip hop mixture. Gives it a little flair... but still mellow and easy to listen to. Unfortunately I will not be able to see his show this year because I've opted not to go to the festival. (Breaking my 10 year streak!) Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll play somewhere close to PA so I can travel out to see him. Anyway--hope you enjoy! It's definitely not the norm!

Finally--April Fools Pranks--on Video!
Ok, so here are the two pranks we played on April Fools Day! This first one was spur of the moment... unplanned. We had originally tried to scare Bill (you'll see him in the second video). He didn't buy it... but the one guy from the shop saw our prank and decided to prank our rather gullible janitor guys. LOL! It's hard to tell their reactions because of the camera angle--but it was funny! And for some reason Cathy yelled "Happy Halloween!"....
This second video... I must explain. After we tried to prank Bill... we made plans for him to go get John (our warehouse guy) so we could prank him as well. The in between time was when we pranked the janitors. His reaction is priceless... but it was almost too good to seem genuine. I didn't believe that he really was startled so badly for hours after the incident.... (notice my comment at the end of the video)... but he really had NO idea. And notice.... in the beginning...(I was on the phone in my office)... there was a little GIGGLE... that was from Cathy! LOL!
On a more serious note... There was a horrible house fire in a nearby community last night. 10 People died! A mother and her children, two of her grandchildren and a family friend. (The oldest daughter was the mom of the grandkids... and she and another brother got out). Everyone is in disbelief. They believe space heaters were the cause--but its too soon to tell for sure. Here is the link to the newspaper article. It's so sad!! Please pray for the remaining family and friends. There have been 14 deaths in this small town in the past two weeks. I just learned of one... where the 2 kids were at their grandma's house waiting for their mom to pick them up... they were sitting out on the porch steps. Their mom came driving down the street and a coal truck hit her head on. She died instantly while her children watched the whole thing. It really makes you think about life...

April Fools Day Update...
Well... today was not quite as expected. First off... I had to go in to work at 5:30AM. I had a horrible stomach ache. It was awful!!! I was miserable. But a coworker gave me... *gag*... Rolaids... and it ended up helping after awhile. (I literally almost GAGGED when I chewed them--ICK!) Anyway, I had prepared some toothpaste filled Cookies the night before. Of course I used Fluoride-Free Toothpaste (its all I use) so as not to poison anyone who might actually SWALLOW the cookie. LOL! Then, Cathy brought in some donuts and we stuck a fake fly on one. We could NOT for the life of us get anyone to eat either treat!!! We tried to non-chalantly offer them, etc... and we pretty much ate the container of cookies (trying to make it look harmless).. .and we each ate a donut (after my stomach settled)... and left the other for Bill... but he was too smart. So... I took the pack of cookies up to the main office.. HEH HEH HEH... I'm sure I'll hear about it through the grapevine later. Honestly, though... they smelled like Thin Mints.. so I wouldn't be surprised if someone ate them not knowing the difference! LOL! Anywho. I also got a couple of Baby Ruth Candy bars to use as fake Pooh somewhere... but didn't have the energy to figure something out... so I ate one of them. haha. The main gag for today was this big box! We waited until after UPS came.. and then called Bill in to help me lift the box on a pallet since it was too heavy and big for me to handle myself. Cathy was, of course, IN the box with the top taped down slightly. We also had rigged up my camera inside of a small box (we cut a hole in it) and it was set on the table with other UPS packages to film the whole thing. Well.. Bill didn't buy it. He just kicked the box. BUT... a guy in the shop saw our plot.. and he also saw the VERY gullible janitor guys in the shop. He told Cathy to get back down in the box... and then he asked the two guys to come help him move the box. They fell RIGHT into it! LOL!!!! It was hilarious--and caught on video. However, I can't get the stinking things to load on YouTube. (Anyone have any advice? Maybe I'll try tinypic). Anyway... THEN we had Bill in on it and he went to get the Warehouse guy, John to help him move the box... it was so funny. I actually thought he was FAKING being surprised because of how freaked out he got. I thought NO WAY WAS HE SERIOUS! But later, I found out we really did scare him... and he said it took 5 years off his life. LOL... he was SO funny. If I could figure out how to make it Slow-Mo... oh my gosh.. it is hilarious. I will see what I can do to get these vids up as soon as I can. It would be a shame not to share them with you all!!!
Now... real quick before I go get ready for bed.. I wanted to share a Meme with you that my sis had on her blog. I'm not going to tag anyone because I'd end up tagging the same people anyway--so if you want to join in.. just let me know so I can check it out on your blog!!!
Five Random Things About ME: Devon*in no particular order*
